ALBANY - A new New York casino is set to open March 1, making it the 20th gambling hall in the state to open by then.

The Point Place Casino near Syracuse will add to an already crowded upstate New York gambling market as the Oneida Nation opens its third casino in the area.

It also runs the expansive Turning Stone Casino and opened the Yellow Brick Road Casino.

"The 65,000-square-foot smoke-free casino will feature a modern gaming floor with nearly 500 popular slot machines and 20 table games, as well as several restaurants and bars," the Oneida Nation said in a statement Wednesday.

The facility will be located in Bridgeport, Madison County, just a few hundred feet from Cicero in Onondaga County.

The Oneidas expanded their gambling facilities in the region after the state in 2014 picked three new casinos for upstate New York, including one in the Finger Lakes: delLago in Tyre, Seneca County.

The largest of them all, the $1 billion Resorts World Catskills, is set to open in mid-February.

It will be the last of four private upstate casinos that have received gaming licenses since 2014.

The three casinos that opened about a year ago — del Lago; Rivers in Schenectady; and Tioga Downs in the Southern Tier — have fallen short of original revenue projections.

Last fall, it appeared they were on track to fall about $220 million short of initial projections, a review by the USA Today Network's Albany Bureau found.

But Senate Racing Committee Chairman John Bonacic downplayed the slow start, saying the new facilities have brought thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in new revenue to the state and the communities in which they are located.

"It was a very competitive process for four casino licenses, and of course, their consultants were going to put rosy projections in order to get the Gaming Commission to hopefully give them a license," Bonacic, R-Mount Hope, Orange County, said Monday on The Capitol Pressroom, a Albany-based public radio show.

He added, "I think it’s been a huge success."

The Point Place Casino said it plans to have 200 permanent jobs. It will have two fast-food restaurants, two bars and a bakery.

A jobs fair is being held Monday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the plaza at the intersection of Route 298 and Route 31 in Bridgeport.
